Fifty European History/Social Studies 30-1 AP students attended the annual Holocaust Education Symposium at the Royal Alberta Museum on 20 March. A very moving film presentation- “Seven Days of Remembrance… and Hope”- told the story of the annual March of the Living at Auschwitz in which sixty Canadian students participate. The personal account of an Auschwitz-Birkenau survivor, Dr. Eva Olsson (age 87), was most moving. She reminded us all that “What happens to hate if it’s left unchecked? It turns into rage.” She concluded her presentation by modelling that we must never be bystanders to injustice.
