Envirothon Competition

Envirothon

As you may remember, 4 PK students - Cole Beattie, Logan Heemeryck, Nicholas Silver and Andrea Shipka (now graduated) - won the provincial championship for Envirothon in May. This allowed the students to participate in the North American Envirothon competition in Peterborough, Ontario in July. 51 teams from North America and one team from China participated. Many of the participating teams study for this competition full year as part of their AP Environmental courses.

The PK team did an outstanding job not only in the competition but also representing the best of our school, province and indeed the best of what it means to be Canadian. The kids placed 38th out of 52 teams (which I believe is one of the highest rankings for Alberta ever!). I am extremely proud of the work they did and the incredible knowledge they demonstrated - all of which they sourced and built on their own. More importantly, I am very proud of the fact that our students had fun, included everyone, negotiated some very politically heated discussion with ease, knowledge and dignity and that they made many wonderful friends from across the world.
