English Course Selection Strategies

There are three course streams for English at Paul Kane:

  • The “dash two” stream is for students who are either going to NAIT or finishing with a high school diploma.
  • The “dash one” stream is for those students heading towards college or university
  • The Advanced Placement stream is designed for students who love reading. AP English students write the same final exams as the “dash one” students with the additions of the AP English Language exam (May of grade 11) and the AP English Literature exam (May of grade 12)

It is possible to switch between streams. Students who score 45% or higher in English 10-1 may advance to English 20-2. The same rule applies for students switching from English 20-1 to English 30-2. Students may switch into Advanced Placement with teacher and/or Department Head consultation.
