The First Annual Golden Birdie Cup
For the first time EVER Bellerose and Paul Kane joined forces on the Badminton Court. Our foes became friends for a day as we ventured into Bulldog territory, ate some pizza, hit some birds, and shared a few laughs. As the event came to a close, several students were awarded Golden Birdies - ranging from the 'Taking Flight Birdie' to the 'Greasy Bird.' This was an awesome event hosted by Bellerose, and we hope to continue the tradition next season and beyond.
Badminton Zones
Badminton Zones was an amazing experience for our students. Over the three day event we had athletes compete in singles and doubles events, and had a few students finish within arms reach of provincials.
Dahlia Van der Veen played excellent, and made it into playoffs in Female Junior Singles.
Brian Kong pulled double duty, placing third in Male Junior Singles, and fourth with Ben Kong in Male Senior Doubles.
Tomas Peschke and Josh Kelly played their way into playoffs in Male Intermediate Doubles.
Jayleen Hills and Julia Knudsen played their hearts out as a Junior Doubles team, and will be hungry for playoffs next year. This goes for 'The Goods' as well (Nick and Taylor Good). Our future is bright!
City Championships
Not only did we qualify for playoffs, we made it to the final day of competition - with that Badminton City Championship Banner in our sights. We played our hearts out, but the birds just didn't land in our favor, as we finished fourth in the City. You would've never guessed this though, as we were all smiles and completely ecstatic with our performance. Our athletes played awesome, and completely blew us away as coaches. They definitely set the bar high for next year!
Overall it was a successful season for Paul Kane Badminton, and we wanted to take the time to thank all of you who came out to support our athletes!
